Happy New Year, y’all!
For January’s meetup, WHICH WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY 20/1 at 2pm INSTEAD OF OUR USUAL 3rd SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AS A ONE-OFF, we will be welcoming back friend to the group, Barry Wall (aka The EDI Jester) …and if you have not heard Barry speak, you are in for a treat! Barry has worked across sectors, voluntary, educational, public, and private throughout his 30-year career as an adult educator. He runs an online education program called The Warrior Teacher at www.thewinningmindset.co.uk, and you can find him on Twitter/X at @HeadWarriorTWM and YouTube at @edijester.
There seems to be a struggle currently going on in the English-speaking West. Many schools, universities and companies have taken on board the tenants of DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion). Some say it is a step in the right direction to promote equality for all, while others believe it is regressive and damaging. Just this week we’ve seen the resignation of the president of Harvard University in America, being forced out because of a combination of factors including her lack of scholarship and being accused of extensive plagiarism, basically being labelled a “diversity hire.”
Barry believes this issues cuts across politics and boils down to freedom versus authoritarianism. So just what exactly are teachers, professors and the educational establishment promoting? One of the greatest threats to education, Barry believes, is the infiltration of the system by activists hell bent on capturing the minds of young people. He will be discussing the current state of education and will include a Q & A session for those unclear on what seems to be happening. All opinions are welcome and will be heard. If you disagree with Barry, we welcome you to challenge him!
Come join the CCC group for stimulating and fresh conversation and debate! We’re a friendly, welcoming bunch. Grab a drink at the bar and come upstairs for some lively, open and honest chat. All good faith opinions will be welcomed and respected. We don’t charge for our events but we do ask for a small cash donation on arrival. Once again, this month’s meeting is on Saturday 20 January. We will be going back to our usual 3rd Sunday of the month in February.
