For June’s Meetup, we will be welcoming speaker, Nick Buckley.
Nick Buckley stood for Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2024 as an independent candidate, and shocked everyone by coming in third and beating the LibDem, Green and Reform candidates, and nearly passing the Tory candidate, too! Nick will be discussing his recent journey, what he has learned along the way, and how this all fits into the general election in July in his race to become an MP. This will be a good opportunity to hear directly from someone who is in the middle of Greater Manchester and UK politics. There will also be a question & answer session and open discussion after his talk.
He has never been shy to share his views and beliefs, and that makes him dangerous to the Establishment.
Nick first came to national attention in June 2020 when he was fired from the charity he founded for critiquing Black Lives Matter. He then mounted a successful fightback that resulted in his reinstatement after the board of trustees resigned due to public pressure and the threat of legal action.
He spent two decades preventing crime and antisocial behaviour in the toughest Manchester neighbourhoods through the promotion of early intervention and personal responsibility. He is also a social campaigner on the issues that keep people in poverty – as he believes many of these issues are self-inflicted and he wants to break that cycle.
Join CCC Manchester for stimulating and fresh conversation and debate! We’re a friendly, welcoming bunch, and many folks even choose to stay well past 4pm to continue the discussion! Grab a drink at the bar and come upstairs for some lively, open and honest chat. All good faith opinions will be welcomed and respected. We don’t charge for our events but we do ask for a small cash donation on arrival to help pay for the room and Meetup membership.
